About the Caregiver Nation State Network

The Caregiver Nation State Network, powered by the National Alliance for Caregiving, brings together family caregiving leaders across states to champion policy, systems, and cultural change for our nation’s 63+ million family caregivers. The Network empowers state-based coalitions and organizations to drive change by linking policy, data, and storytelling, while fostering peer-to-peer learning and collaboration. Together, Network members work to educate policymakers, elevate family caregiving on state and national agendas, and advance a broader understanding of care as a shared social responsibility.

Our Funders

The State Network is made possible through the generous support of Grantmakers in Aging, Lutheran Services of America, Cambia Health Foundation, and the RRF Foundation for Aging. The Network also benefits from the broader support of The John A. Hartford Foundation, whose cornerstone investment in the Caregiver Nation Coalition helps advance policy, systems, and cultural change for family caregivers nationwide.

“As both advocates and caregivers, we understand how important it is to come together to promote awareness, education and tangible supports. Caregiving provides the backbone of our health and long-term care system, but often at a great toll to the many individuals serving in the shadows, struggling and alone. There are 53 million of us and we need to join our voices together.”

– Heather Altman, Executive Director of the North Carolina Serious Illness Coalition and Karen Appert, co-lead of the NC Caregiving Collaborative.

“Caregiving is fulfilling and gratifying, but is stressful in every manner – including emotionally, financially, and physically. Caregivers and our caregiver system in Hawaii are in crisis. The Caregiver Nation Network will be the rock upon which the Hawaii Family Caregiver Coalition continues to build its statewide advocacy for implementing policies and programs in support of Hawaii’s family caregivers and their caregiver recipients, our beloved kupuna and our family members with disabilities.”

– Gary Simon, Hawaii coalition leader and advocate

“Implementing the National Strategy for Family Caregiving will take both small and big actions, from many organizations and people. Collaboration within the state and learning from other states will allow us (in Utah and nationally) to come closer to our vision of creating a world where family caregivers are recognized, valued, supported, and integrated into the healthcare and long-term care systems.”

-Rebecca Utz, PhD., Utah coalition leader and advocate
